How Helping Others Softens Our Hearts

A gentle person who is kind to people achieves things that a cruel and rude person cannot achieve. Constantly doing even small good can help soften our hearts and bring us closer to Allah. It is even better if these things become a habit. Some people do not even realize that their hearts have become callous. Therefore, the desire to do good deeds, or at least an attempt to do them, can help a person avoid such a state.

Just remember the story of a man who came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) complaining of a callous heart.

A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and complained about the hardness of his heart. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked him, "Do you want your heart to become soft?" He replied, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then said, "Bring an orphan close to you, stroke him on the head and feed him from your food, for this will soften your heart and Allah will help you in your need - the worship that you burden." At-Tabarani in "Mukhtasar Makarimu Akhlyak".

This is a gesture and a sign not only of kindness, but also of mercy. When you see a little orphan, pat them on the head, hug them, and they will feel the love and compassion that they lack from their deceased parents or parent.

Showing kindness towards others, feeding the poor and the hungry, and caring for them - all this softens your heart.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) repeatedly advised being kind in dealing with other people.

It was narrated from Jarir that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever is deprived of kindness, he is deprived of goodness." Muslim 2592.

But we also need to be more careful in our communication with family members, friends, and relatives. In a family where there is no kindness, manifestations of rudeness, stubbornness, and disrespect for each other can be observed. Such relationships lead to a deterioration in ties between family members, which in turn can lead to their hearts becoming more callous.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is reported to have said: "If Allah desires good for a family, then He spreads kindness among them."

Let's encourage ourselves to be kind whenever possible, and encourage our loved ones to do the same. Amine.
